What we collect, and why
This notice explains what personal information Gooey Goat collects through this website and through Firefinch FHC, why we collect it, who processes it for us, and how to ask for a copy of it or have it deleted.
Who we are
The responsible party is GOOEY GOAT (PTY) LTD, registration 2024/259572/07, Centurion, South Africa. We make Firefinch FHC and run this website.
The short version
- This website sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, shows no advertising and has no forms or accounts.
- Firefinch FHC never sends your design files anywhere.
- Firefinch FHC goes online to check its licence and to look for updates. A problem report is sent only if you press Send.
- We do not sell personal information, and we use it only for the purposes below.
This website
The website is hosted by Cloudflare. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies and does not follow you across other websites, so there is no consent banner. As with any website, your browser's requests reach Cloudflare with your IP address.
If you email us at info@gooeygoat.com, your message and our replies are kept in our Microsoft 365 mailbox so that we can answer you.
Cookies and your device
This website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Everything it shows, including its fonts and pictures, comes from this site. Apart from Cloudflare, which hosts the site and counts its visits, a visit sends nothing to any other company. Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts our visits, uses no cookies or browser storage and collects no personal data. That is why there is no cookie banner.
If we ever add something that is not strictly necessary and would set a cookie or load from another company, we will ask you first, and none of it will load until you choose.
Support email
When you write to our support address, your message, anything you attach and our replies are kept in a Microsoft 365 shared mailbox. We use them to answer you and to fix problems in the software.
An AI assistant, Anthropic's Claude, running on GitHub's servers, reads incoming support mail to sort it and to draft replies. It sends only these replies on its own: an acknowledgement that we have your message, a request for the crash report, a note that a problem is fixed in a named version with a request to update, and answers to how-to questions quoted from the user guide. A person approves every other reply before it is sent.
Support covers whether the software works. Whether a design is correct or meets a code is for the reviewing engineer, and we do not advise on it.
Problem reports from Firefinch FHC
Firefinch FHC can send us a problem report, but only when you press Send in its report window. It never sends one in the background. Before you send, it shows you exactly what will be sent. A report holds:
- what you were doing, in your own words;
- a reply address, if you choose to give one;
- the Firefinch FHC and engine versions;
- if you tick them, the newest crash report and the last lines of the session log.
A report never includes your design file.
The full report is stored privately with Cloudflare (in its R2 storage) for 90 days, or until the issue it raised is closed, whichever is later. A cleaned copy, with user names, file paths, project names and contact details removed, goes to our internal issue list on GitHub. Only the person responsible for software support at Gooey Goat can read that list, and the AI assistant may read the cleaned copy to sort it.
The licence check
Firefinch FHC's licences are managed by Keygen. When you activate a licence on a computer, Firefinch FHC sends Keygen your licence key, the computer's name, and an identifier for the computer made by a one-way calculation from a Windows identifier (never the Windows identifier itself). After that it works offline and checks the licence again about once every 30 days, using the key and that identifier.
Updates
Firefinch FHC checks downloads.gooeygoat.com for a newer version and downloads it from there. Those files are served by Cloudflare, and as with any download, the request carries your computer's IP address. The update check sends nothing about you or your designs.
